The COVID-19 Vaccine is Coming

Long-Awaited Vaccine is Arriving

Assisted Living providers in Louisiana have gotten some long awaited good news as it pertains to the vaccine for COVID-19.  Vaccines are beginning to arrive in Louisiana this week and while many residents are wondering when the vaccine will be made available to them, the CDC has advised that these vaccines be administered in “Phases”.

The Louisiana Department of Health has specifically stated that frontline healthcare workers AND residents of long-term care facilities (the classification of which Assisted Living facilities fall under) will be in the very first Phase of vaccines to be administered which will total under 100,000 doses.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has indicated that once an emergency use authorization (EUA) is approved for the vaccine, they will then be immediately distributed to vulnerable populations. The method of distribution of the vaccine will be through Tier 1 hospitals and Pharmacy networks. Summerfield Senior Living has partnered with CVS Pharmacy who will administer the vaccine on site in our communities.

All Summerfield residents and staff are eligible in Phase 1 to receive this vaccine.  For individuals with insurance, this will be billed directly to the insurance company.  However, there are funds available to cover the cost of the vaccine for those with no health insurance coverage.  This will ensure that there will be no out of pocket cost for the vaccine.

Summerfield Senior Living is Ready

It has been a long 9 months since the beginning of the pandemic.  However, we here at Summerfield feel fortunate for the fact that we will be in the first Phase of vaccine administration as we know that many seniors living on their own may not qualify for the vaccine until it is made available to the general public.  This is officially the light at the end of the tunnel for us.

We expect that the current restrictions will be lifted sooner for our residents who have been vaccinated.

In light of this news, please contact us if you or your loved one may now want to consider a move to one of our communities.
